South Carolina had a very successful Saturday on the recruiting trail, adding a commitment from junior college linebacker Eldridge Thompson. Thompson wasn’t the only pledge the Gamecocks got over the weekend, as four-star receiver Shi Smith also committed to the school.

Props to head coach Will Muschamp for getting the message out in quick succession:

South Carolina was the first SEC offer for the 6-foot-2, 218-pound Eldridge, who also has a scholarship offer from Middle Tennessee and has received interest from Arkansas.

“I just loved everything about the school and what they had to offer me on and off the field,” Thompson said according to Phil Kornblut of Spurs & Feathers.  “They said the loved  my speed and how athletic I’m am so they can play me in the box and out on the slots because of my covering skills.”

The Gamecocks now have 13 total commitments lined up in the 2017 recruiting class after receiving a commit from Eldridge.
