Tramel Terry, who left the Georgia football team earlier this season, has shown interest in transferring to South Carolina.

After finishing this academic semester at Georgia, Terry will transfer to a new school to continue his football career. South Carolina is one school that has shown interest in him.

“South Carolina stands out,” he told The State. “It’s home. I pretty much know everybody on the team. It wouldn’t be like I was going somewhere random.”

Terry said he has talked with current Gamecocks assistant Steve Spurrier Jr., who told him a new head coach should be in place by early December. Once the new coach is in place, Terry plans to take an official visit.

“I’ve been to South Carolina like 30 million times coming out of high school,” he said. “I would take an official so my family could go up there and get to know the coaching staff.”

Terry, a sophomore defensive back and wide receiver, is a native of Goose Creek, S.C., near Charleston. He was the state’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2013. He chose Georgia over South Carolina, Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame.

His Georgia career didn’t pan out like he’d hoped. He tore his ACL during a postseason all-star game in 2012, and the injury forced him to miss his first season in Athens. The Bulldogs initially recruited him to play receiver, but moved him to defensive back a year ago. In 2014, he played in 10 games as a reserve safety, making six tackles and an interception.

He played in three games this year before leaving the team in search of more playing time elsewhere. Terry said he would like to play offense at his next school.

“I already know what I can do with the ball in my hands,” he said. “Steve Spurrier Jr. started recruiting me when I was a freshman in high school. He knows what I can do.”

Georgia coach Mark Richt has granted Terry his full release, meaning he can transfer to any school.

Terry has also shown interest in Duke and Jacksonville State. He visited Jacksonville State last weekend.
