Jadeveon Clowney is without question the best player to have ever suited up for South Carolina. In three seasons with the Gamecocks (2011-13), he recorded 129 tackles (47.0 for loss) with 24.0 sacks, seven pass deflections and nine forced fumbles before becoming the No. 1 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He’s not the only Clowney to play the position, either.

Demon Clowney, Jadeveon’s 6-foot-6, 185-pound “little” cousin, is a defensive end prospect coming from the recruiting class of 2020 — meaning he’s just going to be a freshman in high school this fall. He doesn’t have an official rating yet by any recruiting sites, but you can imagine how that will change in the coming years.

And he’s expected to take a visit to Columbia this weekend.

Think his measurables are already impressive? Wait until you read his “personal statement” on his NCSA profile (where you can also view a few quick single-game highlights from his 8th grade season):

My goal is to be the first person in my family to go to college, graduate, and provide a better life and example for my family and friends. I would love to play football at the highest level, but I am just as motivated to be a good student and make the most of my college experience. I have played football since I was in third grade. My first experience was playing Old Town Gators out of Baltimore and I liked the physical and mental part of the game. My entire family was there to support me and it brought us together. I learned what it was like to be part of a team and compete as a team. Over the years, I’ve been able to take that to the next level and be a leader and a motivator for my team even when things get tough. I love being a teammate as much as a leader.

Four years ago, I was given an opportunity to move out of Baltimore and attend a different school. When I first left Baltimore, I had always thought that I wasn’t very smart and I hated school. Since then, my grades have gone up and I understand what is expected of me and although I can’t say that I love school, I can say that I love doing well in school and getting good grades. So it makes the work worth it. I have always been fortunate to be a natural athlete, but I have learned that as I get older, there are a lot of natural athletes just like me so I have to continue to work and figure out what’s going to make me stand out from the rest.

Overall, I am a hard worker, I know how rare the opportunities are that are ahead of me and I’m willing do whatever it takes to be part of a team. I respect my coaches and the people in my life who have given me these opportunities. Four years ago, I would have never thought college was possible so I’m not going to let that slip away.

This is a future prospect to keep your eye on.
