Medal of Honor recipient USMC Cpl. Kyle Carpenter (Ret.) is continuing his national tour as one of our country’s brightest stars.

The University of South Carolina student will lead the school’s pre-game cheer prior to kickoff Thursday night when the Gamecocks take on Texas A&M at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Carpenter’s whirlwind summer has featured a trip to the Late Show with David Letterman, Wall Street and several first pitches at Major League ballparks.

“Out of all the stuff I’ve been fortunate enough to do, this is the only thing I’ve been nervous about,” Carpenter said to Gamecocks Online. “It’s not like I have to do anything other than scream into the microphone and let the crowd handle the rest. I love South Carolina, and I just want to do a good job. I’m really excited about it.”

Carpenter was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on June 19 for his bravery in combat during a battle in Afghanistan in 2010. Carpenter shielded other Marines away from a grenade with his body, suffering serious injuries to his torso and face.
