Lorenzo Nunez came to South Carolina with some considerable hype.

A 4-star QB prospect from the Atlanta area, he was the crown jewel in Steve Spurrier’s last recruiting class. A combination of inconsistency and injury led to Nunez seeing time last year as a true freshman.

However, the arrival of new head coach Will Muschamp changed everything. Along with Muschamp came quarterbacks Jake Bentley and Brandon McIlwain. Nunez was thus moved from the quarterback position to the wide receiver corps.

He’s yet to feature in the 2016 season. Nunez’s development as a receiver will take time — and a knee injury suffered in the offseason certainly didn’t help matters.

On Thursday, Muschamp spoke about the role Nunez may or may not play this upcoming year:

It appears as if Muschamp sees real potential in Nunez as a receiver. A full year off the field to learn the intricacies of the position — whilst also garnering experience and confidence — seems like the direction Nunez is headed for.

With his combination of athleticism and size, Nunez is undoubtedly an intriguing option as a pass-catcher.
