What a wild finish.

Jake Bentley led his Gamecocks down the field with 55 seconds remaining to hit a game-winning field goal with 7 seconds on the clock. South Carolina beat Louisiana Tech by a score of 17-16.

The field goal by Parker White was clutch, but kicking woes almost downed the Gamecocks as White was 0/2 on field goal attempts before the game-winner. In fact, his first career field goal as a Gamecock was the game-winner today.

Frankly, South Carolina is fortunate to get the victory today. It appeared to be all over when Louisiana Tech hit a field goal to go up 16-14 with 55 seconds remaining.

Inconsistency on offense resulted in a 13-0 deficit to the Bulldogs, but Bentley and the passing game gained traction in the second half to score consecutive touchdowns and make it a 14-13 game.

Bentley finished the game 22 of 34 for 295 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Two missed field goals were just about enough to do the Gamecocks in. One of the biggest cheers of the day came when South Carolina’s Parker White hit an extra point and the crowd sarcastically exploded.

White’s redemption, however, was secured with the game winning field goal.
