Quick thoughts from South Carolina’s 37-12 win over South Alabama:

What it means: The Gamecocks are headed back to a bowl game for a school-record seventh straight season.

What I liked: South Carolina’s 96-yard drive in the fourth quarter that put the game away included two highlight-worthy plays from Pharoh Cooper. Cooper’s 73-yard reception on 3rd-and-10 put the Gamecocks in business at the South Alabama 13 and two plays later, he found Dylan Thompson in the corner of the end zone. The Gamecocks defense forced a season-high five turnovers and played well at times for a second straight week.

What I didn’t like: Five turnovers including two lost fumbles from junior tailback Mike Davis. South Carolina’s effort lacked on offense throughout and was most noticeable in the second quarter when the Gamecocks gave it away three times causing several headset and playsheet tosses from Steve Spurrier.

Who’s the man: Brison Williams, South Carolina’s senior safety and multi-year starter who recorded two interceptions including a pick-six in his final home game. Williams stepped in front of a swing pass from Hunter Vaughn in the second quarter and raced untouched for a 21-yard score.

Key play: Mason Harris’ sack-and-strip of quarterback Brandon Bridge in third quarter gave the ball back to the Gamecocks and was cashed in a few players later on a field goal from Elliott Fry.

What’s next: South Carolina travels to Clemson with a five-game winning streak in the rivalry on the line.
