UPDATE: FootballScoop.com is now reporting that Director of Player Development Drew Hughes is expected to stay at Florida. Jim McElwain reportedly changed Hughes’ mind at the last second, despite this being in the works for several days.

Original Story:

Florida may have won two in a row over the Gamecocks but South Carolina will reportedly beat the Gators this week, as director of player personnel Drew Hughes is expected to leave Gainesville for Columbia. It seems South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp strikes again, as Hughes will be just the latest connection between Coach Boom and the Gators.

This news comes via Football Scoop, who notes Hughes spent 2007-2011 working at Alabama as a recruiting specialist under head coach Nick Saban before being hired by Muschamp at Florida in 2013. Of course, Muschamp and Florida head coach Jim McElwain have both worked as assistants under Saban.

Hughes once detailed his job description to Scott Carter of GatorZone.com.  Here’s how Hughes broke it down:

If his familiarity with Muschamp wasn’t enough to convince you this was a good move, former South Carolina star running back Marcus Lattimore shared his positive feelings on the move:
