South Carolina linebacker Skai Moore tweeted Friday that he had successful surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck.

Moore will miss the upcoming season with him facing six months of recovery after the surgery. The senior plans to redshirt and play for the Gamecocks in 2017.

Moore’s absence will be a hit to South Carolina’s defense. He totaled 111 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions last season. It’s good news that the surgery went well, but the Gamecocks could have used his presence this fall when trying to improve upon a 3-9 campaign in 2015.

Still, it’s wise to approach Moore’s recovery with caution. He will be a welcome presence for South Carolina’s defense when he returns.
