South Carolina fans hoping for an upgraded viewing experience at Williams Brice-Stadium will welcome the latest comments by athletic director Ray Tanner.

Tanner joined 107.5 The Game’s Halftime Show to discuss a variety of topics including possible stadium upgrades, particularly to the east side.

“One of the things about Williams-Brice, and I think it’s a tremendous football stadium, is there is not enough premium seating,” Tanner said. “The demand certainly outweighs what we have. I think we have 18 or so suites on the west site. We have club areas and The Zone [on the south side]. We don’t have any on the east side. There is an opportunity possibly that we can do that. One of our studies came back that engineers told us we can do suites and clubs in the middle area [of the east side] without compromising the lower or upper deck.

“It’s certainly a massive project, but not to the point that you have to re-do the upper and lower deck. The opportunity is going to be vested as we move forward. I think probably within the next few months we’ll have a little more information if we are going to move forward on that. That’s a possibility.”

He also addressed renovations to the Floyd Football Building.

“We’re not going to tear that down,” Tanner said. “I can’t speak certainly for the Board of Trustees or what Dr. Pastides’ wishes may be, but the plans are that when we move our football staff to the football operations facility across the street, we will have some space to repurpose so there are some conversations ongoing about whether we create offices or premium space. It is going to give us some opportunities to enhance what we’re doing at Williams-Brice.”

Tanner also mentioned that a hall of fame has been talked about as well near Williams-Brice, possibly part of the stadium.
