South Carolina added a key piece to its 2019 recruiting class on Monday night.

Jaylen Nichols, an offensive lineman out of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., pledged his commitment to the Gamecocks and head coach Will Muschamp.

The Gamecocks now have three juniors committed for the next recruiting cycle, according to a report from The State.

Nichols, who is 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, is currently rated as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite. He has an offer from Indiana, as well, and has received some interest from North Carolina, Arkansas and Virginia Tech.

Nichols was offered by the Gamecocks in the summer after attending a camp in Columbia, the report pointed out. He apparently said offensive line coach Eric Wolford and head coach Will Muschamp made him feel “very comfortable.”

“I like the coaches because they are consistent, honest and straightforward,” Nichols said. “Coach Wolford said I need improvement, of course, but where I am now he sees a bright future.”

Nichols is expected to be an offensive tackle.
