Will Muschamp era at South Carolina kicks off with two decommitments
The Will Muschamp era at South Carolina has begun — and four-star defensive end Jordan Smith wants no part of it.
Smith, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect from Lithonia, Ga., took to Twitter to make his decommitment, citing Muschamp’s decision not to retain defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward as the main factor.
After talking it over with my family and coaches, I have decided to de-commit from South Carolina. @GamecockFB

Losing Coach Spurrier was tough but losing Coach Ward is tougher. I have narrowed my decision to Tennessee and Florida

Smith is the 26th-ranked player in Georgia according to 247Sports.com. He took an official visit to Tennessee on Dec. 4 and will take an official to Florida this weekend. The 247Sports crystal ball has Tennessee as the favorite to land Smith by 67 percent.
Joining Smith as an ex-Gamecock commitment is three-star defensive back J.J. Givens from Mechanicsville, Va., but he isn’t ready to close the door on Muschamp yet.
