Not buying in to some of the spring game attendance numbers being thrown around? If so, you aren’t the only one.

During his Tuesday night appearance on the Midlands Spurs Up Tour, Will Muschamp was asked about spring games around the league. While admitting he watches his opponents’ spring games on TV, Muschamp also stated neither his Gamecocks or any of their opponents showcase anything that hasn’t already been put on tape due to the fact the games are now televised.

The conversation soon turned to attendance numbers, to which the South Carolina coach isn’t fully buying into at this point. The Gamecocks were officially listed with a spring crowd of 25,500 fans.

“Sure, it’s nice to have a great… I thought we had a great turnout,” Muschamp said in a video from the Spurs Up Tour posted by The Big Spur on YouTube. “I want to see who’s counting all these spring game attendances. I’m watching some of these spring games, I’m watching the crowd and then what they’re putting out there is not exactly what I think it is. I think we got cheated on some of ours. I think we had more than 25. I think we had 50, let’s say we had 50. There is no doubt there is some fudging of numbers.”

All kidding aside from Muschamp, he notes the real attendance numbers come in the fall. At that point, the South Carolina coach has no worry that his program’s fans will show up and be in full force.

“We have a lot going on in our state (during the time of the spring game). I know one thing, on September 1st (SC’s home opener against Coastal Carolina), it’s going to be full. And that’s when it counts,” Muschamp said.
