Will Muschamp became the coach at South Carolina prior to the 2016 season, a job that Steve Spurrier had resigned from the year before. That was the last time Spurrier was a coach, his departure ending an 11-year stint with the Gamecocks.

But Spurrier is returning to coaching next year and the current Gamecocks coach is looking forward to seeing how the Head Ball Coach does in 2019.

Spurrier has been named the first coach of the Orlando team in the Alliance of American Football, a new spring league that will start in 2019. Like many, Muschamp is excited to see how it unfolds for Spurrier.

“I’m glad Coach Spurrier is coaching. He needs to be in coaching, that’s what he does best,” Muschamp said at the podium at SEC Media Days in Atlanta on Thursday. “Hopefully that league will make it.”

Spurrier went 86-49 while leading South Carolina from 2005-15. He resigned during the 2015 season, leaving the Gamecocks with six games remaining in the campaign.

Muschamp has since taken over, going 14-11 over his first two seasons at South Carolina.
