The way things stand now, South Carolina only has 11 games on the 2018 schedule following the cancelation of last week’s Marshall game. That game was of course canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Florence to the region.

The Gamecocks currently have an opening on Oct. 20, as that was the team’s originally scheduled bye week heading into the season, but now looks to serve as a second bye week for the team for the time being. During Will Muschamp’s Tuesday afternoon press availability, the South Carolina coach was asked what was the latest on making up that game, as the school announced could happen when the Marshall cancelation was announced.

Based on what Muschamp said, adding a game during that bye week is something that’s being considered at this point.

“We’ve had numerous discussions, Coach Tanner and myself, on the (October) 20th open week,” Muschamp said. “Depending on how our season ends up — December 1st. Once we know a little bit more about where we are headed with that, we will certainly make that information available.”

There you have it, South Carolina has under a month to figure this situation out, and with the clock ticking, it seems more and more unlikely that a game would be added on Oct. 20 at the last minute. Despite that line of thinking, South Carolina appears content to see how things shake out in the interim.

South Carolina is currently scheduled to play Tennessee the week after the Oct. 20 bye week.

Will Georgia seal up the East in the next few weeks, leaving Dec. 1 open for the Gamecocks? If so, that date becomes very viable for the Gamecocks, but it’s hard to imagine fans will be fired up to visit Columbia on that date while conference championships are taking place around the country.
