There’s a reason why Will Muschamp is typically wearing a black shirt when you see him on the South Carolina sideline during games.

It’s not superstition. Or that the Gamecocks only provide him with only shirts of one color. But the South Carolina coach does have a purpose behind his fashion decision.

“I look skinnier,” Muschamp said Thursday at SEC Media Days. “It’s true, it helps.”

Muschamp has even received advice from South Carolina men’s basketball coach Frank Martin on how to look thinner — although he doesn’t plan on taking it.

“Frank Martin tells me to wear loose shirts, but I’m not going to wear an untucked shirt on game day,” Muschamp said. “That won’t look very good.”

There you have it. So don’t expect to see Muschamp switching to white, garnet or any other color shirts during games this fall. He seems to be pretty set on sticking with the black ones.

Expect Muschamp to don his black shirt for the first time this fall when the Gamecocks open the 2018 season at home against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1.
