South Carolina held its second scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, where it was anticipated that a starting quarterback would emerge.

Senior Perry Orth, freshman Brandon McIlwain and freshman Jake Bentley are all competing for the starting spot, but none of the three separated themselves from the pack on Saturday.

According to 247Sports, coach Will Muschamp still wasn’t ready to sort out the quarterback depth chart on Sunday:

“At this time, we’re not ready to name a starter before Vanderbilt,” Muschamp said. “That’s obviously going to be to our advantage. I thought all three guys (Jake Bentley, Brandon McIlwain and Perry Orth) can be very productive at that position.”

Muschamp added that all three quarterbacks have played well this fall, which makes naming a starter irrelevant at this point:

“If someone had distanced themselves, we’d probably have named a starter,” Muschamp said. “Last night’s scrimmage, there were extremely good plays by each player at the position. That’s a position I’m not worried about going into the season.”

To be fair, Muschamp acknowledge that allowing Vanderbilt to game plan for one of the three South Carolina quarterbacks wouldn’t be a very smart tactical move:

South Carolina and Vanderbilt square off in Nashville on Thursday, Sept. 1.
