Former Ole Miss star Eli Manning understands his NFL career is at a crossroads. Will he land with a new team, or retire from the New York Giants? That much is known, but it’s unclear which direction Manning plans to go, at least so far.

Manning told reporters on Monday that he has not made a decision about his future, but he knows he doesn’t want to be a backup again. Manning was replaced by Daniel Jones early in the season, and then returned to start a game when Jones was injured.

The New York Daily News and Associated Press reported that, including that Manning said that being a backup to rookie quarterback Daniel Jones was “no fun” and added that he didn’t see a situation where we would consider playing for another team as a backup next season.

Manning has a decorated career, and if he leaves, will have almost every Giants passing record; two NFL championships; two Super Bowl MVPs; and a streak of 210 consecutive starts between 2004-17. During his 16-year career, Manning helped restore the Giants as a championship contender.

Manning is well-respected throughout the league, among teammates, and especially notable for how he handled the demotion this season.

Whenever his next decision comes, it’ll be big news across the sports world.
