The SEC leads the country with nine players on the Rimington Trophy watch list, which awards college football's best center.

We’re officially 100 days away from SEC football, and award watch lists will start to appear more and more leading up to the season.

The Lott Trophy watch list has already been released, too, and Jadeveon Clowney wasn’t even on the (defensive) watch list.

The Rimington Trophy is given annually to the Most Outstanding Center in college football, and the SEC leads all conferences with nine players on the post-spring watch list:

David Andrews, Georgia

Evan Boehm, Missouri

Dillon Day, Mississippi State

Reese Dismukes, Auburn

Jonotthan Harrison, Florida

Ryan Kelly, Alabama

James Stone, Tennessee

Travis Swanson, Arkansas

Evan Swindall, Ole Miss

Two of the nine – Evan Boehm and Ryan Kelly – will be first-year starters at center, while the other seven are weathered veterans.

Auburn starting center Reese Dismukes is suspended from the Clemson game following his arrest for public intoxication.

Auburn will be playing with a new starting center against Clemson following the arrest of Reese Dismukes.

Dismukes was a freshman All-American last season and started all 13 games, but Gene Chizik suspended him yesterday afternoon following his arrest for public intoxication around 2 AM the night before in Auburn.

Now, little used Tunde Fariyike could step in for the suspended Dismukes against Clemson, or the Tigers could shuffle the offensive line around to fill in the hole.

This comes at a particularly bad time for the Tigers, considering they are a week away from game one.

Chizik did not say how many games Dismukes would be suspended, but he clearly wasn’t happy yesterday.

“I am very disappointed in Reese Dismukes for his irresponsible behavior,” Chizik said in a statement. “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated at Auburn, and I have suspended Reese as a result of his actions.”

The good news is that Auburn has options and bodies to fill in for Dismukes. The bad news, however, is that Dismukes is a very good player and the leader along the offensive line.

The game is obviously still winnable, but not having your most intelligent player on the offensive line to make line calls and adjustments during the game is not too good.

Here are 12 sophomores from the SEC that will lead their teams, not only this year, but in the future, too.

Making an impact in the SEC as a freshman is a very difficult task, but the 11 players below did it in the SEC West. These guys can bust a grape, and they will be centerpieces on their teams for at least two more years.

Here are 11 super sophomores in the SEC West to look out for this year:

Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU: A surefire NFL Draft pick in two years, Odell Beckham had a breakout year as a freshman. He was second on the team in receiving with 41 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns. Get this kid the football!

Serderius Bryant, MLB, Ole Miss: Bryant returns as last year’s fourth leading tackler. He was overshadowed by fellow freshman CJ Johnson, but he took the middle linebacker position by storm and received loads of playing time. And he took full advantage of his opportunity.

Reese Dismukes, C, Auburn: It’s rare you see a true freshman start right away on the offensive line, but Dismukes did just that. With a combination of the Tigers’ need for offensive linemen and the caliber of Dismukes’ game, he started all 13 games. He will be an anchor on the line this year as a second year player.

Kaleb Eulls, DE, Mississippi State: Eulls played in all 13 games last year as a redshirt freshman, and he returns to help solidify the defensive line. He had 30 total tackles, three tackles-for-loss and one sack. He looks to have a breakout year for MSU.

Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas: Flowers wasn’t a starter last year playing behind Jake Bequette and Tenarius Wright, but he earned much playing time and showed flashes of the player he will be this year starting full time. He played in all 13 games, making 28 total tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack.

Kenny Hilliard, RB, LSU: Hilliard will remind you of a tank bursting through the line of scrimmage getting to the second level. He got his opportunity when Spencer Ware was suspended, and he earned playing time the rest of the year. He carried 62 times for 336 yards and tied for a team-high eight touchdowns.

Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU: ‘The Freak’ as they call him in Baton Rouge had very high aspirations for his freshman year. He somewhat got caught up in the hype of being an all-heralded freshman but still made his way into the rotation. Look for him to be a boss on the defensive line in 2012.

Cyrus Kouandjio, OL, Alabama: ‘The biggest human being’ comes when talking about Kouandjio. He hurt his knee in week seven and missed the rest of the season, but he will be an integral part of Alabama’s success on the offensive line this season.

Tevin Mitchel, CB, Arkansas: Mitchel became one of the most talked about corners in the SEC last year, earning a starting spot from very early on. He has great size at 6-0, and he made 56 tackles. He will be a lockdown corner before his time is up, and he may get there this year.

Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss: Besides Odell Beckham, there is not another more promising young receiver than Donte Moncrief. He was the Pied Piper of last year’s class, and he lived up to the hype. He was the team’s leading receiver with 31 catches for 454 yards and four touchdowns. He’s the real deal.

Brad Wing, P, LSU: The Aussie just etched his name into SEC football lore when he faked a punt and took it to the house against Florida, only to be called back for taunting. He was second in the SEC in punting, averaging 44.4 yards per punt and set a record in the SEC Championship game with his 67-yarder. This kid flips field position in a hurry.

With every signing class, there are players who are destined to play immediately, and some step into starting roles. With 15 starters to replace, it’s fair to say that several of these signees will assume starting positions. I’ll look at all of these positions, and try to determine the incoming freshmen with the best chances of having an immediate impact.

If you talk about key losses for Auburn, the first position you think of is at quarterback. In all seriousness, you don’t replace someone like Cam Newton. Cam Newton was more than a QB. He was Auburn’s leading rusher, passer and short yardage back. As high as I am on Kiehl Frazier, I don’t see him coming in this Fall and taking the job away from Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley.

At tailback, Auburn was already thin, and losing Mario Fannin creates an opportunity for immediate playing time. Look for incoming freshman Tre Mason to have an impact on the Auburn running game this fall as a backup to both Mike Dyer and Onterrio McCalebb. He has the breakaway speed needed at the position, but needs to add some pounds between now and the start of the season to be effective between the tackles.

The one position on the Auburn team that gets the most ink is the offensive line. Auburn lost four of the five starters on the offensive line from last season. Fortunately for Auburn, they have also signed two consecutive classes of offensive lineman that are capable of immediate help. Auburn isn’t as thin or inexperienced at this position as many believe though. They retrurn three linemen who have been starters at one point in their careers, so the 2011 signee with the best chance of having an immediate impact is Reese Dismukes. Dismukes is the top rated center coming out of high school, and he has already enrolled and will go through Spring practice with the team. With the players signed in 2010 and 2011, there will be plenty of talented underslassmen to fill in any holes in the line.

With the loss of Darvin Adams, Terrell Zachary and Kodi Burns at wide receiver, it’s almost a given that some of the incoming freshmen will get significant playing time. You have to assume that Trovon Reed will get one of the starting positions, along with returning WRs DeAngelo Benton and Emory Blake. You can’t operate an offense with just three WRs, so look for incoming freshmen Sammie Coates and Jaylon Denson to see a lot of PT. With their size, (both are 6′ 3″), they should be able to create some mismatches with smaller DBs.

The offense should be alright in 2011, especially in the Gus Malzahn system, but the biggest problem for Auburn in 2011 will probably once again be on the defensive side of the ball.

Gabe Wright

Auburn’s front seven last year was as good as any in the country. One of the things Auburn was able to do defensively with their front seven last year was take the other teams’ running game away from them, making them one-dimensional. Of the two deep roster last year, the only players returning with significant playing time are Jonathan Evans, Nosa Eguae, Daren Bates and Eltoro Freeman. Auburn has also been grooming LaDarious Phillips to be a DL starter this fall. There were other players with limited playing time, but this is a position where I see some freshmen starters. Kris Frost has an excellent chance of being a starter this fall, along with Gabe Wright. Auburn has signed a lot of talent at this position, and there are several who could win starting positions, or see significant PT.

I saved the greatest need for last. While many look at the four lost starters on the OL, I have no worries about that position. The greatest losses and greatest need is at DB. Auburn was woefully thin at the position last year, and several players were thrown into the fire that weren’t completely ready for SEC competition. Key returnees in the defensive backfield are Mike McNeil at safety, and Neiko Thorpe and T’Sharvin Bell at CB. Auburn’s class of defensive backs has been rated tops in the nation, and I look for all of them to play this fall. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see all of them starting by the end of the season. One of the things they bring to the table is size. The smallish DBs that graduated are being replaced with taller DBs, with more speed and a greater wing span. It may take some time to get valuable experience, but the DB should be greatly improved.

In summary, I look for TB Tre Mason, C Reese Dismukes, WR Sammie Coates, WR Jaylon Denson, LB Kris Frost, DT Gabe Wright, S Erique Florence, S Anthony Swain, CB Robenson Therezie, CB Jermaine Whitehead and CB Jonathan Rose to be the incoming freshmen most likely to have an immediate impact this Fall for Auburn.

Auburn is gearing up for a huge recruiting weekend with many of the top junior and senior high school recruits from the Southeast in attendance, but Auburn is expected to get the weekend off early with a commitment from 5-star OT Christian Westerman. The AZ native committed to Texas early this year, but is set to hold a press conference on Friday to announce he is decommitting from Texas and committing to Auburn. Had Texas managed to hire Auburn OL coach Jeff Grimes earlier this month I think Westerman would have been solid in his commitment to Texas.

Next weekend Auburn will host Cyrus Kouandjio who is considered the top OL prospect in the nation. The staff has made up a lot of ground with Kouandjio over the last few months and the opportunity for immediate playing time on the defending national championship team is an easy sell. This weekend Kouandijo is visiting Iowa and there is nothing like Iowa in January to make you want to come back. I hear the frozen corn fields are very pretty this time of year.

Auburn already has 4-star offensive linemen Thomas O’Reilly and Reese Dismukes enrolled and ready to participate in spring workouts. 4-star offensive lineman Greg Robinson is committed and the addition of Westerman and possibly Kouandjio would give Auburn the best offensive line class in the country. Shon Coleman (5-star OL from Mississippi) has also enrolled for the spring, but is still undergoing chemo and will not be cleared to play until 2012. Shon was the #1 player in the state of Mississippi in the 2009-10 class and the #3 OL in the nation.

Auburn might have lost 4 starters on the offensive line this year, but there will be plenty of talented guys competing for a spot.

Auburn University currently has 15 commitments for the class of 2011. They will undoubtedly sign more than what they have at the moment. Let’s take an early look at some of their talented commitments.

Kiehl Frazier

Kiehl Frazier is ranked #4 on SDS’s top quarterbacks for 2011. Frazier is a dual-threat quarterback that figures to fit perfectly into a Gus Malzahn coached offense. He can run and throw and will remind you of current quarterback Cameron Newton. If he can hone his accuracy, Frazier will have a chance to become a complete quarterback for Auburn.

Jonathan Rose is one of the biggest commitments the Tigers have at the moment. Rose is a 6’2”, 170lb corner from Leeds, Alabama. Rose is a very physical corner and can really play press coverage with the wide receivers. He will be a boost to the Tigers secondary.

Reese Dismukes is a 6’4”, 290lb center from Spanish Fort, Alabama. Dismukes is an athletic center suited for the spread offense. He will work well in Malzahn’s offensive scheme.

Auburn will get commitments from other top players, and we will keep you updated on that status here at Saturday Down South.
