Texas A&M has made quite a bit of positive noise with its recent #AggieNights black alternate uniform that will make its debut against South Carolina on Oct. 31.

The monochromatic set features white numerals, a black HydroSkin helmet with a reflective primary logo and an over-sized secondary Lone Star hip logo on the pants.

It’s the latest alternate Adidas will tinker with in College Station at a program that’s been relatively accepting of anything the three stripes brand has wanted to try during Kevin Sumlin’s tenure.

The Aggies also wore a black alternate against Mississippi State during Johnny Manziel’s career along with a strange grey get-up that failed at LSU. 529971ee95265.preview-620

In a recent interview with TexAgs, Sumlin said the Aggies are open to trying out new looks but there’s a line they wouldn’t cross.

“Adidas has worked with us and we are one of their top programs now,” Sumlin said. “Their research and development (team) has come up with some wild stuff, trust me, and we have denied it. They have gotten the ‘no sir’ a couple of times. We try to keep it classy and reflective of A&M as possible, but we also like to recruit and create energy for our fans and players.”

One of the most interesting apparel decisions last season in college football was Texas A&M’s rugged leather throwback. Adidas delivered the nifty threads in time for the Aggies’ home game against Louisiana-Monroe, weaving a retro ‘leather’ look from 1939 into Texas A&M’s gameday garb.

Again, Hydro Graphics provided the helmet design and gave it a worn-out look.

While the throwback set was universally well-received, reviews were mixed on Adidas’ iced-out white alternate the Aggies debuted at Mississippi State. Helmets were matte white with a chrome fade and primary logo while jerseys featured maroon numbers with a silver secondary logo.

While the one-off was original and generated immediate praise, Texas A&M’s lackluster performance in the bling means we probably won’t see those again this season.
