Former Heisman winner and Texas A&M star QB Johnny Manziel is expected to suit up for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League next season.

It’s been a couple of years since Manziel has played football at any level after his Cleveland Browns career came to an end, so it remains to be seen how well he’ll actually play north of the border.

However, Hamilton coach June Jones is excited to see what Manziel can do, and even told CFL.ca that he thinks Manziel has a chance to be the greatest player in CFL history:

“I think he’d be the best player to ever play up here,” Jones said. “He can throw it and he can run it like nobody ever has been able to do.”

Jones said he’s seen flashes of brilliance from Manziel at every level and thinks the Heisman winner can regain that top form in the CFL next season:

“I would say he was not quite at top shape but I was very, very impressed with his arm strength, his accuracy and that’s what I was concerned about as far as passing,” Jones said after seeing Manziel in action in work outs with the Tiger-Cats. “I saw it in college, I saw it on the film, I saw it against Alabama, I saw it against everybody.

“Even his NFL films to be quite honest. The things that he would do up here, he excelled at at the National Football League level. I think he has a tremendous upside and it really is in his lap to decide if that’s what he wants to do.”

It will be fascinating to see how Manziel fares next year, but if he can put together an outstanding season, he could indeed live up to Jones’s praise and become one of the greatest CFL players ever.
