This is not a researched statistic, but it may be a good bet that 9 out of 10 SEC football fans have never heard of the Bonham Trophy.

If you are one of those nine, don’t feel bad because the two teams that play for the trophy didn’t know it exists, either.

Named after James Bonham, a South Carolina native that fought in the Battle of the Alamo, the trophy is awarded to the winner of the game between the Aggies and the Gamecocks every season, since the two schools started a cross-division rivalry in 2014.

Will Muschamp admitted on Wednesday that he had never heard of the trophy, but it’s hard to blame South Carolina’s head coach for that, as the Gamecocks have not beaten the Aggies once in the four times they have met.

However, the winning side of the rivalry appears to be as unfamiliar with the award as Muschamp, according to SportsDay.

Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams was asked about the trophy, and replied, “The who? What’s that?”

Veteran linebacker Otaro Alaka was just as oblivious.

“I had no clue there was a trophy,” said Alaka, “There’s a trophy for who wins? There is no trophy for who wins. I’ve never seen a trophy.”

“We have never held up a trophy after we’ve won, and we’ve won all of them,” Alaka said. “I can honestly say I have never seen that trophy.”

The fact that no one on either side even knew the trophy existed is hilarious, but the cat is out of the bag now. We will . have to wait and see if the winner of Saturday’s game between the Aggies and Gamecocks lifts the Bonham Trophy after the game.
