Germain Ifedi is a beast of a man who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 325 pounds. Taken by the Seattle Seahawks in the first-round of this year’s NFL Draft, the former Texas A&M standout clearly has the physical assets needed to succeed in the NFL.

According to Dave Boling of The News Tribune, Ifedi has impressed Seattle offensive line coach Tom Cable with his intelligence:

This year’s first-round draft pick, Germain Ifedi, should be a lock at right guard. He’s so sharp and such a quick learner that Cable had him coach the other linemen on a package installation already. Cable said he’s never done that with a rookie.

Boling noted that Ifedi seems to be athletic enough to handle a different style of play than the Aggies used:

The thing that has impressed me so far is that he’s a guy who played a stand-up right tackle in Texas A&M’s spread offense, but already looks pretty comfortable getting in and out of a 3-point stance. It’s probably been very rare that he’s had to fire out low and drive block in college, but something that will be the bread and butter of his job with the Seahawks.

Given how much Seattle likes to run the ball, Ifedi’s comfort level in a three-point stance could be one of the keys to success for the running game.

With questions all over the offensive line, having the first-round pick ready to play immediately should relieve some pressure on the other linemen.
