As former Texas A&M QB and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel continues working on his professional football comeback, he’s opening up about a lot of things in his personal life.

From alcoholism to bipolar disorder and depression, Manziel has spoken out about what went wrong during his brief NFL career with the Cleveland Browns.

During a recent appearance on Barstool Sports’s “Pardon My Take” podcast, Manziel went into detail about how his relationship with Drake hasn’t changed even as his life took a turn off the field (via 247Sports):

“We still have a really good relationship,” he said. “Going back to when I was 18 years old, and I was a kid in College Station, the only person I ever wanted to meet was Drake. Once that happened and we became friends and we talked every couple of weeks, and we hung out a million times by now, I’ve gotten to see him work in the studio. There are certain things that between me and him, I think we will be friends for a long, long time. I think, for me, being the one person that every person has on their bucket list of who they want to meet, for me to actually not only meet him but have a solid relationship is pretty cool.”

Manziel also discussed his relationship with LeBron James. While he said he hasn’t talked to LeBron in a while, he gave the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar a lot of credit for trying to keep him focused during his time with the Browns:

“The guy couldn’t have tried anymore,” he said. “I remember whenever I was going through my NCAA scandal if you want to call it at A&M. Every day, I would get up and go to training camp and Bron would text me like every day. ‘Just keep your head up, don’t worry about anything all the outside noise.’ At this point in time, I was just 20 years old, I didn’t know how to handle the national media pressure and spotlight without checking Twitter and letting it get in my head or seeing it on a website. He tried super hard to just keep me grounded and keep me focused on that. I think that was really the start of our relationship.”

As Manziel attempts to work his way back to the NFL, or at least professional football at some level, it sounds like he’s ready to make the most of his friendships and not take them for granted.
