Sophomore Kyle Allen will start at quarterback when Texas A&M opens the season against Arizona State on Sept. 5, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin announced Monday.

Allen took first-team reps throughout fall camp despite five-star freshman Kyler Murray’s much-anticipated arrival on the Plains.

Allen threw for 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns last season after taking over as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback during the second half of the season following Kenny Hill’s benching and subsequent transfer.
