Things got much more interesting in College Station Tuesday evening as reports surfaced that Kevin Sumlin would be out of a job regardless of how the upcoming game at LSU plays out. The Aggies are a game away from winning eight games but apparently, the leadership at A&M has seen enough and is ready to begin a new era.

Sumlin spoke during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. Here’s a summary of what he had to say:

  • Opening comments: Coming off a road win last week where our team played well enough to win the game. Defensively we showed up and we’ve had a good week of practice, ready for another SEC opponent.
  • Thoughts on the report published last night? Have you talked to your AD since then? I have not talked to (AD) Scott (Woodward) since Saturday.
  • Any reaction to that? It’s not like we haven’t dealt with this since the spring. I think our team has done a good job of focusing on the game at hand. We’ve had to deal with that from the beginning of the year.
  • Does the report distract you from the preparation for LSU? I don’t know. We haven’t had a chance to talk to our team. The story came out during Tuesday’s practice and we found out about it after the fact. We will deal with it how we’ve dealt with everything this year and continue to handle business as usual. Our staff and our players have done a nice job of handling it. In football, you try to teach lessons and dealing with adversity is what life is about. This is another learning experience.
