Texas A&M helped start a busy week of spring football when the Aggies took the field for their first spring practice session of 2015.

This spring marks some big changes for the Aggies. It’s John Chavis’ first as the defensive coordinator at A&M (amidst some legal drama) and Kyle Allen’s first as the undisputed starting quarterback.

Here are some of the sights and sounds from Texas A&M’s first practice of the spring, held at the McFerrin Athletic Center, the Aggies’ indoor practice facility.

John Chavis got out and ran with his defense:

The Chief was in the middle of drills giving some hands-on instruction as well:

Sumlin revealed a few injury notes after practice.

Allen, one of just two scholarship quarterbacks in practice this spring, got some throws in on a target:

The Aggies donned white helmets with a maroon “aTm” logo, the same helmets they most recently wore in the Liberty Bowl win over West Virginia in December.

Here are a few quotes from the coaches after practice:

Chavis began to get settled in his new digs, getting familiar with his defensive personnel as well as his first taste of Kevin Sumlin’s Air Raid offense.

Sports performance coach Larry Jackson had some positive things to say about Allen, taking his first spring reps as starter.

Good news for the Aggies receiving corps — five-star recruit and early enrollee Christian Kirk is already beginning to live up to the hype.

At the end of the day Sumlin seemed pleased with his troops’ work on day one of spring.
