With the national recruiting dead period now over, it’s time for teams to strike to round out their 2015 recruiting classes. That means official visits can resume and coaches can get back out on the road to put on the full-court press. This weekend, the Aggies are opening their doors, which could mean big things for the 2015 class.

Texas A&M is welcoming a host of players already committed to play for the Aggies in 2015 and beyond for official visits this weekend, but mixed in are some of the biggest names Texas A&M is still chasing. That includes three players that could serve to push a top-10 class over the top.

Most intriguing of the visitors is Daylon Mack, a five-star defensive tackle. Mack, a Gladewater, Tex. native, initially committed to the Aggies, but reopened his recruiting in mid-December. When Mack dropped his commitment, he listed LSU and TCU as his top two choices. Mack dropped LSU from his list after former Tigers defensive coordinator John Chavis left to take the same job at, yup, Texas A&M.

If Chavis is able to bring Mack back into the fold, it would be a major gain for the Aggies defense. Chavis’ defenses at LSU often had a destructive force in the middle of the defensive line, and Mack certainly fits that bill. Seeing him tear blockers to shreds in the Under Armour All-American game showed Aggies fans what they were going to be missing.

The Aggies are also bringing in the consensus top running back in the nation for a visit in Soso Jamabo. Another Texan, Jamabo would provide some backfield punch for the Aggies after losing Trey Williams to the draft. Jamabo follows a trend of super-sized running backs that have made their way to the SEC, checking in at 6-foot-2.5 and 210 pounds with a well-rounded skill set.

Wide receiver Damarkus Lodge, a four-star talent, is not quite as essential to a team that is stocked with receiving talent. It would, however, give the Aggies a victory over several other SEC schools Lodge is interested in, as he’s considering Ole Miss, LSU and other schools.

All three of those big-name players hail from Texas. The “We Run This State” campaign Texas A&M has recently embarked on hasn’t quite been backed up, as Baylor and TCU are currently top dogs in Texas, while the Texas Longhorns have scored a couple of recruiting victories over the Aggies this cycle. Mack and Jamabo are both slated to visit Texas as well in the coming weeks, so A&M will have to make it’s pitch stick this weekend.

By bringing in two of the top-rated prospects in Texas, the Aggies could re-stake their claim to being on top of Texas. TAMU currently rates just ahead of Texas in the class rankings, according to a variety of recruiting services, and they can put a choke hold on the state with a couple of wins this weekend.
