Texas A&M has one of the best recruiting classes in the country, currently ranked fourth after a successful week that included landing three junior college commitments and five-star wide receiver Christian Kirk. While that’s no surprise, given the school’s location in a recruiting hotbed and its SEC ties, the Aggies are currently doing it without a recruiting coordinator.

David Beaty, who was the Aggies wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, left a few weeks ago to take over the head coaching job at Kansas. He’s regarded as one of the best recruiters in the country, and it shows with his results at Texas A&M.

Beaty’s Texas A&M commits

  • Five-star DE Myles Garrett, Arlington, Tex. (2014 class)
  • Five-star WR Speedy Noil, New Orleans, La. (2014 class)
  • Four-star CB Nick Harvey, Richmond, Tex. (2014 class)
  • Four-star QB Kenny Hill, Southlake, Tex. (2013 class)
  • Five-star ATH Ricky Seals-Jones, Sealy, Tex. (2013 class)

Beaty recruits from 2015 class

  • Five-star QB Kyler Murray, Allen, Tex.
  • Four-star DE James Lockhart, Ennis, Tex.
  • Four-star OT Trevor Elbert, Rockwall, Tex.

Next in line

Kevin Sumlin has yet to hire or promote a new recruiting coordinator, but he has some strong recruiters on staff already.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach was instrumental in bringing in Kyle Allen, the top quarterback recruit in the nation last year, and he had a hand in Murray and Hill’s recruitments as well. In his college announcement on Wednesday, Kirk cited Spavital as one of the coaches he talked to throughout the process.

Spavital’s recruiting prowess goes back to his days at West Virginia, when he helped bring in players like 2014 Biletnikoff Award finalist Kevin White, among others.

Offensive line coach B.J. Anderson is considered one of the best recruiters in the SEC. He helped the Aggies land a commitment from five-star recruit Daylon Mack for 2015, as well as four-star safeties Justin Dunning and Larry Pryor. Anderson does good work in his area of coaching expertise as well, with several four-star offensive line commits in the 2014 and 2015, as well as an early verbal commitment from the No. 1 player in the class of 2016, offensive tackle Gregory Little from Allen, Tex.
