Texas A&M made a pair of corresponding future scheduling moves on Thursday. The Aggies dropped Oregon from their schedule in 2018 and 2019, adding Clemson as a replacement.

Texas A&M signed their deal with Oregon in 2009, while they were still members of the Big 12 Conference. In the agreement, Texas A&M had an out clause should they change conferences. A&M joined the SEC in 2012.

According to FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman, the Aggies bailed on the home-and-home series because it didn’t fit into their schedule due to their annual neutral-site game against Arkansas. Oregon, a member of the Pac 12, reportedly did not want to cancel the series.

Dropping Oregon from the schedule is a bit of a bummer for football fans around the country. Oregon and Texas A&M play two of the most up-tempo, high-octane offensive styles in the nation, and the games between the two of them would have been loaded with fireworks.

The Aggies slide Clemson right into the dates previously occupied by the Ducks. Clemson’s athletics website confirmed their agreement on a home-and-home series on Thursday night. The ACC’s Tigers will travel to Kyle Field on Sept. 8, 2018, followed by the Aggies making a trip to Memorial Stadium in Clemson on Sept. 7, 2019.
