Kevin Sumlin has certainly been on the hot seat at Texas A&M after a string of eight-win seasons, and it was reported Tuesday evening that A&M has decided to move on from the coach regardless of the outcome of the LSU game.

The report is a tough one to deal with as the Aggies prepare for a game against No. 18 LSU. Moving past the distraction is likely a tall task, and it is also being reported that the A&M staff (and Kevin Sumlin) found out about the report while leaving practice Tuesday evening.

Bruce Feldman with Sports Illustrated shared comments from an unidentified staff member who said he found out about the report through text messages after finishing practice Tuesday. The staffer was certainly upset about the way the Aggies and the coaches found out about the report:

“It’s s****y for it to go down like this if what has been written (in the Chronicle’s report) is accurate,” the staffer said. “For our players to find out about it like this, that it doesn’t matter if we win Saturday night at LSU, it’s really s****y. It’s a huge distraction for them not to have their minds focused on the game. They’re probably saying WTF? Every one of them was recruited by Kevin Sumlin.”

The staff member also said the coaching staff felt they would have a strong case to stay with A&M if the team pulled off three straight wins to finish the season at 8-4.

Sumlin became the head coach at A&M after a successful stint at Houston. He has a 51-25 record in six seasons with the Aggies but has yet to reach nine wins in a season since 2013 and has never won the SEC West.
