Though Texas A&M eventually won a 45-38 overtime thriller against Tennessee last weekend, the Aggies aren’t happy with how their defense played.

In the win, A&M allowed Tennessee to rack up 684 yards — 402 through the air and 282 on the ground.

Still, as star DE Myles Garrett said, the important thing is the Aggies won, thanks in large part to forcing seven turnovers:

“It was tough giving up all that yardage,” Aggies junior defensive end Myles Garrett said. “It was hard to watch; it was hard to endure. But we came together and made a lot of big stops. We kept them out of the end zone a lot with those [seven] turnovers and we just showed a lot of resilience. I’m proud of those guys.”

With a bye week before next weekend’s showdown against No. 1 Alabama, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is confident the Aggies can improve:

“We want to play better,” head coach Kevin Sumlin said. “The point of emphasis going into the game was takeaways. That’s all part of the game. We want to be dominant every week, but there’s good teams, good players and good coaches in this league. Sometimes it goes that way.

“We had some breakdowns where we gave up big chunks of yardage, which we haven’t done this year. That was because of a couple different things, but those are things that can be fixed.”

Texas A&M travels to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama next weekend. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on CBS.
