Tennessee welcomes Georgia to Neyland Stadium in what should be one of Week 6’s most intriguing SEC matchups.

If there is any team in the league more desperate for a win this week than Tennessee, I’d like to see it. The Vols have suffered close losses to Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas in three of the last four weeks.

Meanwhile, Georgia is looking to rebound from a dud performance against Alabama with the whole country watching.

Here are five impact players to watch (in no particular order) as Tennessee tries to stop a two-game losing skid against Georgia on Saturday:

1. Tennessee LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – At this point in the season, it could be argued that Reeves-Maybin has become the most important player on the Vols roster and the glue to the Tennessee defense. With talented running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel paying a visit to Knoxville on Saturday, the Vols will rely on Reeves-Maybin, who leads the team with 51 tackles, more than ever before. Sure tackling is a must if you plan to beat Georgia, and Reeves-Maybin is the best bet the Vols have in that department.

2. Tennessee LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. – For the reasons listed above, the Vols need more production from its linebacker corps outside of Reeves-Maybin. That puts the spotlight on a guy like Kirkland, a freshman who has earned some starts at middle linebacker and turned in a seven-tackle performance against Arkansas last week. If he’s able to step up and consistently make tackles in the middle of the field against Chubb and Michel, he could become one of the biggest impact players on the Vols roster Saturday. It’s a tough task, but the Vols need him to grow up quickly.

3. Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs – It seems like we list him here each week, and that’s probably just an indication of how important his play is to the success of this team. Dobbs must start showing some consistency in the downfield passing game if the Vols offense is going to take another step forward. He’s a talented runner, a smart decision-maker and does a lot of things that the coaching staff likes, but a “next level” SEC quarterback must also be able to attack down the field to help open things up for the running game. If Tennessee is going to beat Georgia, the Vols likely need a couple of touchdown passes from Dobbs to wide receivers.

4. Tennessee DE Derek Barnett – Remember when this guy was considered on the same level as fellow SEC sophomore DE Myles Garrett? Well, while Garrett’s star has continued to rise, Barnett has been much more quiet in the early going of 2015, recording just one sack in the first five games. Some of that may be attributed to the loss of fellow pass rusher Curt Maggitt to injury. The Vols need Barnett to find his groove again and provide an impact against Georgia on Saturday. Ruffling the feathers of QB Greyson Lambert and making the Bulldogs one-dimensional was successful for Alabama, and Barnett could help the Vols execute a similar game plan.

5. Tennessee WR Josh Malone – Butch Jones dismissed senior WR Pig Howard this week for a violation of team rules, which puts more stress on a WR group that has been underwhelming this season. During his meeting with the media, Jones pointed to Malone as a guy who has shown some consistency in his effort this season, but he’s a guy that needs to exhibit some better on-field results. Whether it be Malone, Jauan Jennings, Marquez North, Von Pearson or Josh Smith, one of the many options at WR need to assert themselves as an impact, downfield threat for Tennessee.
