Following reports of an emergency surgery for Tennessee senior offensive lineman Coleman Thomas, the Vols’ projected starter at center in the fall, head coach Butch Jones was asked about the status of one of his most veteran players after Tuesday’s practice.

Jones confirmed Thomas did indeed have a surgery but did not reveal the nature of the procedure.

“(Thomas) had a procedure sometime last night, he’s doing well,” Jones revealed. “Timeframe (for his return) could be a week, could be two weeks, we’ll know a little bit more in a couple of days. But he’s doing great.”

Thomas has started 26 games for the Vols and is arguably the most versatile player on the offensive line for Tennessee. He’s started at right tackle, center, and right guard during his four-year career on Rocky Top.  While he will likely sit out the remaining spring, it appears his status moving toward the season won’t be in jeopardy heading into the summer.
