After being selected No. 29 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, former Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has only 863 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in three NFL seasons. While he remains one of the games most electrifying return men, the Vikings are not likely to keep him around at top dollar just to return kicks.

Understanding he may be on his last shot in Minnesota, Patterson has worked hard to do everything he can to prepare himself heading into the 2016 season.

“I’m just ready to be out there, and when my time comes I have to make the most of it,” said Patterson – according to Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune.

Despite playing in all 16 games in 2015, Patterson caught only two passes for 10 yards on the season. When the Vikings drafted Laquon Treadwell from Ole Miss in the first round this offseason, Patterson knew his position on the team was in jeopardy.

““I’ve been humbled by it. I’ve had a wake-up call these past two years,” Patterson said. “It’s been a humbling experience for me, coming off a good rookie year, getting your spot taken, then a year after that not playing. I’ve been in that fire and I feel like I’ve handled it better than anybody else could handle it.”

Patterson’s rookie contract runs out after this season and barring a complete turnaround of his offensive game, his time in Minnesota may be coming to an end. However, to his credit, Patterson has taken every step he can think of to prepare himself for this ‘show me’ year with the Vikings and sounds eager to make up for lost time.

“I came back and I felt ready. The injury set me back a little bit. But I’m ready now,” Patterson said. “It’s been a long time coming for me and I’m just ready to get out there with my teammates and make some plays.”
