When Eric Berry left the Tennessee program after three years on the field and was selected with the fifth overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, it would have been easy to see the former All-American safety cashing in and becoming on of the NFL’s highest paid safeties at some point in his career.

Of course, that was well before Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. While getting back on the field and contributing to one of the league’s best defenses wasn’t impressive enough after all the health issues Berry had to endure, the size of his reported offer from the Chiefs is sure to impress.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Berry is going to receive a six-year, $78 million deal with $40 million in guarantees. Not bad for a guy that was diagnosed with lymphoma a little over two years ago.

The heart and soul of the Kansas City defense, if there’s one player that deserves a reward for all his hard work on and off the field, it’s Eric Berry. Judging by this six-year offer, Berry will be manning the Chief secondary for the foreseeable future in hopes of bringing the franchise a Super Bowl title.
