Linebacker Jerod Mayo’s season has unfortunately come to an end the same way it had the previous two years.

The New England Patriots captain was placed on injured reserve after the eight-year veteran suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the team’s 27-20 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional playoffs last Saturday.

Mayo, a first-round draft pick out of Tennessee in 2008, was also placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn patellar tendon in 2014 and before that with a torn pectoral muscle in 2013.

Mayo had played in all 16 games during this regular season with eight starts, recording 47 tackles, one sack and one pass deflection.

He restructured his contract in April and has a team option for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
