Former Tennessee safety Stephen Griffin has a new college football home.

N.C. State announced Monday that the junior Griffin will join the Wolfpack program and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re very excited to welcome Stephen to the Wolfpack family,” said head coach Dave Doeren in a statement. “We recruited him in high school at South Meck and wanted him here then. He comes from a great family and adds another top in-state player from the Charlotte area to our roster.”

It was announced that Griffin left the Tennessee program on March 21.

Griffin played in 19 games over the last two seasons for the Vols, making 18 tackles. He made one career start against Vanderbilt, where he made two tackles.

Griffin, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was a 3-star prospect exiting high school. He was rated as the nation’s no. 53 overall safety and the state of North Carolina’s no. 26 prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Griffin will have to sit out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
