One of the more successful Tennessee alums currently in the NFL looks to have secured his role in Oakland for the foreseeable future, as the Raiders have extended the contract of general manager Reggie McKenzie. After receiving a four-year extension, McKenzie’s deal with the Raiders now runs through 2021.

The deal was officially announced by the Raiders on the team’s website Friday evening.

“Reggie’s contract was up at the end of the year, and we felt it was time to reward him for the job that he has done,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said.

McKenzie was hired by the Raiders in 2012 and arrived to a team devoid of talent and mired in salary cap hell. After several seasons of rebuilding the roster, mostly via the NFL draft, Oakland now has one of the most promising rosters in the league.

Under McKenzie’s watch, Oakland has drafted defensive end/outside linebacker Khalil Mack, receiver Amari Cooper, quarterback Derek Carr, tight end Mychal Rivera, offensive lineman Gabe Jackson and defensive end Mario Edwards Jr., among others.

McKenzie is of course the father of current Tennessee sophomore Kahlil McKenzie. The elder McKenzie suited up for the Vols from 1981 to 1984 along side his twin brother Raleigh. Both brothers were born and raised in Knoxville before committing to play for Tennessee.

Upon hearing the news, Kahlil sent out this celebratory tweet:
