The dichotomy of jubilation and sorrow are emotions we all experience. The result of a single event could lead to different pathways for two individuals.

This same story played out Wednesday for receiver Justin Hunter and offensive lineman Denver Kirkland, formerly of Tennessee and Arkansas, respectively.

Hunter was cut from the Dolphins’ roster. A second-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2013, he was immensely plagued by inconsistency. The talent is there for Hunter to be a truly dynamic player in the NFL. However, he’s yet to ‘put it together’ in terms of being a complete player.

Hunter was signed by the Dolphins earlier this month after being cut by the Titans. He played in one game for Miami.

On the other side of the proverbial coin, Kirkland was promoted to the Oakland Raiders’ active roster.

The big 6-foot-4, 335-pound guard was surprisingly not drafted after leaving Fayetteville as a junior. Oakland signed Kirkland as a priority free agent after the draft. He was then released in early September — before immediately being signed to the practice squad.

With Kirkland’s upside and potential, he may ultimately become a huge steal for the Raiders down the line.
