Tennessee head coach Butch Jones confirmed Thursday that the program handled running back Jalen Hurd’s citation internally and that the freshman will play in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Iowa on Jan. 2.

On Wednesday, news broke that the freshman was “arrested by citation” earlier this month for underage drinking. Hurd, 18, is scheduled to be booked and arraigned on charges of underage consumption and a misdemeanor on Jan. 20, the Tennessean reported Wednesday after reviewing a Knox County database of criminal cases.

The tailback led the Vols with 777 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 174 carries. Hurd also had 33 catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
