The Tennessee Volunteers got in the win column on Saturday against Chattanooga, but a much tougher test awaits this weekend in Gainesville, where they’ll take on the No. 9 Florida Gators.
On his weekly “Vol Calls” radio program this week, Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt was asked about stealing a win at The Swamp and also asked if he hates Florida.
Pruitt said the offense needs to focus on creating first downs and converting on third downs and then agreed that ye, he too hates Florida (via 247Sports):
John: “Man, coach, it’s great to be on the phone with you. I can’t wait to tell my dad I got to talk with you tonight.”
Pruitt: “You doing ok, John?”
John: “Man, I’m doing great. Listen, you need to know a couple things. One, I hate Florida. Always hated Florida. Hated Steve Spurrier and Florida. Hated everything about Urban (Meyer) being in Florida and so I’ve got two questions. The first one is this: Do you hate Florida? And the second one is: We stole one from Auburn last year. How do you get Jarrett going early so we can steal one this week in the Swamp?”
Pruitt: “You know, I think our offense has definitely got to work ahead of the sticks a little bit. We’ve got to create some explosive pass plays down the field. We have to throw the football. To do that, you’ve got to kind of create an identity running the ball. At the same time, we’ve got to convert some third downs. And when we get in the red area, we have to score touchdowns. And yes, I hate Florida.”
