Part of Jimbo Fisher’s success as a head coach is his eye for talented assistants. Two of Fisher’s former defensive coordinators, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops and Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, are now head coaches in the SEC. The new Aggies head coach was asked Monday at SEC Media Days about seeing two of his former coordinators become head coaches.

Fisher offered ringing endorsements of both his former staffers. In the case of Pruitt, who was the defensive coordinator at FSU for the Seminoles’ 2013 national championship season, Fisher stressed the importance of his former coordinator waiting for the right gig.

“We won the national championship when he was there in ’13,” Fisher said of Pruitt. “He did a great job of being very multiple in the looks he has and has a great knowledge of the game.

“As I said, he could have been a head coach a long time ago. He has bided his time and got the right job. I think he’ll be a great opponent.”

Texas A&M won’t meet in the regular season in 2018, but there’s always a chance the two could meet in the SEC Championship Game if both squads exceed expectations this fall.
