Tennessee fans, make sure you are sitting down.

Today on the Paul Finebaum Show, Jon Gruden called Tennessee a dream job, his included. This came after Finebaum asked Gruden if he came “close” to taking the Tennessee job or any other job in recent years.

“I don’t know how close. I love football. I mean, I’ll be the first to tell you I miss coaching,” said Gruden. “But I do look at my job here as a lot like coaching. I get a chance to be around it 364 days a year, and I feel like I’m improving. But I don’t have a team.

“Tennessee is a dream job for a lot of people, me included. Timing wasn’t right.”

Gruden, who’s now an analyst for ESPN’s Monday Night Football, commended Butch Jones and noted, “I’ll say this about the Volunteers: they got the right guy. I think Butch Jones is going to put the Volunteers back on the map. It might happen this year. I really like that football team.”

Gruden was, of course, a graduate assistant coach under Johnny Majors at Tennessee from 1986-87, and his wife was also a cheerleader at the university.

Jones has won Gruden over much like he has won everyone else over, and it’s easy to agree with Gruden: Jones is the right guy at Tennessee.
