After engineering a fourth-quarter comeback and overtime victory, it’s no surprise that Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield enjoys talking about last year’s Oklahoma-Tennessee game, a 31-24 contest won by OU.

The Sooners signal-caller recently sat down with Athlon Sports for an interview and revealed that the Volunteers fans and the environment in Knoxville made quite an impression on him:

You can’t beat the Cotton Bowl. There’s nothing like that. But last year when we went to play Tennessee in Neyland Stadium, that was probably the best game experience I’ve had and probably will ever have. That’s a different type of loud. I can’t even describe it. It was unbelievable.

Granted, it’s easy for him to look back fondly on the experience as his team left with the win, but he comes off as genuinely impressed by the crowd noise.

Neyland Stadium will not be hosting any non-conference Power 5 foes this season with the Volunteers playing Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway, but we know UT fans will be making plenty of noise when Florida and Alabama come to Knoxville this fall.
