As has been demonstrated in various commercials, Peyton Manning has some extra free time on his hands. Since he doesn’t have to worry about the NFL playoffs this month, it appears Manning will help out his alma mater find its next athletic director.

Manning’s former coach, Phillip Fulmer is rumored to be the leading candidate. A report earlier Tuesday said that Fulmer becoming the next athletic director is “about done.”

Fulmer played at Tennessee from 1969-71, when the Vols went 30-5. In 1992, he became the head coach at Tennessee. He coached Manning from 1994-97. Fulmer coached through the 2008 season, posting a record of 152-52. He guided UT to a BCS title in 1998.

Former AD Dave Hart announced his retirement in August.
