Tennessee Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer had a few interesting comments about recruiting in a recent radio interview on The Nation on Sports Radio WNML.

The Volunteers AD (and former national championship-winning coach) spoke about his recent hiring of Jeremy Pruitt to lead the UT football program, and specifically, his reputation for being a great recruiter. Fulmer noted there is “a sense of urgency about him all the time.”

“I hired him one day, and the next day we’ve got six coaches here, then the next day they’re on the road recruiting,” Fulmer said. “I’ve passed my (NCAA recruiting) test and I’m ready to hit the road here a little bit. I’ve made a lot of phone calls.

Fulmer was asked if making the recruiting calls and potentially going back on the road was like learning to ride a bike again.

He said it definitely is.

“I’ve got the passion, and everybody knows how much I care for what Tennessee is and what it’s done for me — and I want it to be great again,” Fulmer said. “It’s actually energized me very much. I’ve enjoyed lots of things about not being in coaching, but you like to compete. We’ve got a great opportunity in front of us.

“We’re looking forward, and not behind,” he added. “We have probably tripled the number of guys we’re looking at — and I like the way we’re going about getting ourselves ready to compete.”
