Former Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt is now the head coach at Tennessee, and one of his most difficult tasks will be snapping a long losing streak against the Crimson Tide.

The Vols haven’t beaten Alabama since Nick Saban took over as the head coach in Tuscaloosa, so Pruitt has quite the job ahead of him, but Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer is confident Pruitt has what it takes to get the job done.

During a Sunday night appearance on “The Nation” on the Vol Network, Fulmer said he hopes to see Tennessee reverse its fortunes against Alabama in the near future with Pruitt at the helm (via RockyTopInsider.com):

“I was looking for the best person, wherever they were in the country, and it narrowed itself down as we grinded through it,” Fulmer replied. “I think there’s a pretty good respect from a lot of people in Alabama of what we’ve done here at Tennessee in the past. I hope we can make them sweat again, once the Big Orange rolls out there again in the Third Saturday of October.

“There’s not better day than that. My goal is to be competitive in that game, and then we’ll be competitive in most all of them.”

Whether or not Pruitt can snap the 11-year losing streak to the Tide in 2018 remains to be seen, but his success in Knoxville will hinge on him at least having the Vols compete in that game.

As Fulmer says, if you can compete against Alabama, you can compete against anyone in the country.
