Here’s some quick thoughts from Tennessee’s 24-0 shutout of North Texas.

What it means: With the win, Tennessee is bowl eligible for the second year in a row under coach Butch Jones. It’s the first time Tennessee has been bowl eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2009-10.

What I liked: Tennessee’s defense dominated in the first half, forcing North Texas into three punts and stopping the Mean Green on two fourth-down attempts. Tennessee held North Texas under 200 total yards. Tennessee’s offense rushed for 247 yards in the win.

What I didn’t like: The Tennessee offense started on North Texas’s side of the field on its final three possessions of the first half, but only managed to come away with three points. After RB Jalen Hurd’s 1-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, the offense went stagnant until the fourth quarter.

Who’s the man: Alvin Kamara had another solid game: 15 carries for 127 yards and two TDs. He continues to bring speed to Tennessee’s rushing attack.

Key play: Alvin Kamara took a handoff, raced around left end and eluded a defender on his way to a 27-yard TD run that gave the Vols’ the lead only 1:09 into the game.

What’s next: The Volunteers play at Missouri next Saturday and finish the season with a home game against Vanderbilt. Tennessee in on pace to finish with eight wins for the first time since 2007.
