Jeremy Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee continues to come together, and it is being reported that the Vols have made an impressive hire of an SEC assistant on Wednesday.

Patrick Brown with 247Sports shared the report that Austin Thomas, general manager at LSU, is leaving the Tigers to join Pruitt and the Vols. The report indicated that he will serve in a similar role with the Volunteers.

Thomas was actually the first person in the history of the SEC to hold a position as a general manager. For more information on what that position means and background on who Thomas is, check out this article from SDS’ own Mike Bratton.

It should be considered a strong hire for Pruitt and the Vols, and LSU fans will likely not be happy to see Thomas head to another SEC school. Brown pointed out that in Thomas’ position, he was involved with the majority of what goes on with the LSU football team:

As the general manager for the Tigers, the Tennessee native was involved in nearly every aspect of the Tigers’ program from recruiting and player personnel to football operations and working alongside the coaching staff.
